Brief Synopsis – The further adventures of the new crew of the Enterprise as they pursue a deadly fugitive who has waged war against The Federation.

My Take on it – This is such a fun and exciting sequel that almost equals the original in nearly every way.

It’s great to see the characters feeling more comfortable together after working together for years, this helps them mesh better as a team where they intimately know what the other would do.

I loved how they show the evolution of the friendship between Kirk, Spock and Bones and how they work together here to try and outwit their new enemy.

Yes, this movie (and the original) reuse some of the known storylines from the previous incarnations of the show and movies, but they still found a way to enhance them here and make them feel fresh and original despite a bit of overlap.

The script (like the original) isn’t perfect and has some plot holes and flaws, but they somehow still manage to make the whole thing thoroughly entertaining throughout.

The entire cast is back and it’s so easy to want and wish to see them together so much in the future because they all really click together in just about every scene and situation.

They are all honor bound, duty bound, heroic and loyal to each other until the end plus we get some fun and humorous situations form them which help enhance the experience even more.

I truly hope that the third installment which we will get to finally see this summer will be as action packed and memorable as this one and the original were in order to keep the franchise going for a long period of time.

Loved Benedict Cumberbatch as their new enemy, he really was the perfect choice for this kind of character.

Bottom Line – Excellent sequel that is able to equal the original in just about every aspect possible. The characters are more comfortable together and years of service together helps them work as a much better team. The friendship between Kirk, Spock and McCoy is much more prominent here as they join forces to outwit their deadly new enemy. Rehashes some familiar characters from the original storylines but uses them very adeptly that it doesn’t seem like an outright carbon copy. The script, like it predecessor isn’t perfect and has some plot holes and flaws but still manages to be thoroughly entertaining throughout. Cast are all back and I could watch this crew together so much for years to come because of their adherence to duty, heroism, and loyalty to each other not to mention enough sprinkles of humor along the way. Highly Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia –  There is an inside joke with Chekov being asked to put on a red shirt by Kirk, and Chekov’s less than enthusiastic reaction. In a famous interview, Walter Koenig stated that being a part of Star Trek all of these years was fantastic, as long as you didn’t wear a red shirt, since most of those who wore the red shirts in the original series were almost always killed. (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy (no change from original review)
