The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.
This month’s Genre has been chosen by Drew of Drew’s Movie Reviews we will be reviewing our favorite Heist Movies.

Try to think out of the box!
Great choice Drew!
Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Heist Films…
Number of Times Seen – 1 (7 Mar 2016)
Brief Synopsis – British and Dutch agents travel to Holland as the German forces are about to complete their occupation in order to “rescue” precious diamonds before the Nazis can get their hands on them
My Take on it – When looking for heist movies, I came across this one and found the premise to sound really interesting.
After having watched it, I can’t really say that this is much of a heist film because the “robbery” takes places quite quickly and the rest of the film is pretty slow moving.
I would be quite interested in seeing an innovative (perhaps young) film maker try and remake this film because the idea is really great, but the delivery just isn’t done well enough.
A fresh look from the 21st Century on this subject could work extremely well if they somehow “modernize” it.
The heist is done in a clever way, but is handled too straightforwardly.
Bottom Line – Great premise based on a true story, but comes off as too flat instead of thrilling like it should be. A potential remake of this could be done much better by an innovative film maker looking to reuse a great idea and “modernize” it.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The film opens with the Nazi invasion of Holland on Friday 10th May 1940, Churchill’s rise to British Prime Minister the following day, and then the launch of Operation Amsterdam itself on Sunday 12th May. (From IMDB)
Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Interesting premise, but not as thrilling as I would have hoped. The heist part is clever but is only a small part of this film’s theme.
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
