Number of Times Seen – 1 (15 Mar 2016)
Brief Synopsis – Short film about a young girl’s feelings about getting a new present from her parents and the difference between views of children and adults of the same situation.
My Take on it – I’ve always found it interesting how as adults we view and understand things from our past in quite a different way.
This short film does the exact same thing; we get to see an event from the life of a grown woman and also see what the child in her believed and what she now understands actually happened knowing the perspective of an adult.
It’s quite amazing that in less than 15 minutes, we are exposed to so much, but that’s because it was done very well.
The story itself seems to be quite simple, but in reality it is a very complex one because it allows for multiple understanding of a similar event.
Children have the ability to be simple minded and pure when thinking of things and we, as adults get to be more creative in the way we present things to ourselves and also to our own children. The best part about that is that it benefits both sides this way.
It would be very interesting to see of this idea is ever expanded on because I believe that there is even more to grasp from such a rich theme.
This was nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film in 2015 but it lost out to Feast (2015) (which I loved)
Bottom Line – Interesting concept because in a short narrative story we get to understand so much about how adults and children view similar aspects of life. Seems to be a simple film but in reality it deals with some quite complex themes. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – In March 2015, the film was named Best Animated Short at the 3rd Canadian Screen Awards. (From Wikipedia)
Rating – Globe Worthy
