“Well, this is the .44 Magnum Auto-Mag and it hold a 300-grain cartridge. And, if properly used, it can remove the fingerprints. ” – Harry Callahan
Number of Times Seen – at least 3 (cable in the 80’s and 90’s and 17 Mar 2016)
Brief Synopsis – Dirty Harry is sent to a seaside town to try and figure out who is killing men with two shots; one in the groin and one in the head.
My Take on it – This is the only one of the Dirty Harry movies that once I started rewatching it some scenes came rushing back into my mind from seeing it long ago.
As a teenager during the latter part of the 80’s, I recall watching this on cable and being both amazing and disgusted by the fact that the “rape victim” would shoot her assailants in the groin and then the head.
Obviously, I have a much better understanding today as to why than I probably did back then.
This movie is better than the previous one because we once again get to see the gruff Dirty Harry Callahan return to form and he even gets to utter his now infamous life – Go Ahead…Make My Day!
He once again shows his disdain for his superiors and we actually love him even more because of his no BS manner that he takes with him everywhere that he goes.
I found it quite interesting that this was the final collaboration between Clint Eastwood and his long time girlfriend Sondra Locke.
The scenes in the amusement park are fun to watch and are quite memorable.
Bottom Line – Dirty Harry is back to form here when he investigates mysterious murders in a seaside town. We get to once again see why his superiors dislike him but at the same time, we love him for who he is. Interesting that Eastwood’s long time girlfriend Sondra Locke was in this and this was their final appearance together.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Clint Eastwood is seen wearing Gargoyles sunglasses, which would later surface in The Terminator (1984). The latter film also spawned an ad campaign with Arnold Schwarznegger wearing the sunglasses, saving the company from bankruptcy. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
