“That’s exactly why I can’t have you at the party, because you have repartee with everybody. You love repartee. All you wanna do is flit around the party, flirt with the moms. And then they all get mad and they turn on each other then they yell at Naomi then Naomi yells at me then they wont let their kids play with my kids. Then I have to play with my kid because my kids have no friends. I’m raising friendless children because of you! Do you understand? ” – Xander

Brief Synopsis – A modern day rom-com about whether men and women can just be friends
My Take on it – I am a big fan of many of the rom-coms of the late 80’s early 90’s and its quite hard in this day and age to make one that can top those or even come close to equaling the impact they had on me.
This movie actually was able to do that. This is a somewhat modern adaptation of When Harry Met Sally (1989).
They get so much right here and they know that they don’t need to keep things clean so it remains quite realistic.
The conversations are both hilarious and poignant at the same time.
The choices of Jason Sudeikis and Allison Brie as the leads works so well.
Their chemistry and timing together makes it all seem so real and we truly believe their friendship the whole way through.
In addition to the leads, Adam Scott and Amanda Peet have great roles that really help within the constellation of the whole story.
This is definitely a rom-com that I can see myself watching over and over because it really is that good.
Bottom Line – Hilarious and poignant rom-com that IMHO is one of the best in years. Very reminiscent of When Harry Met Sally (1989) but with a very modern and up to date spin on it all. Sudeikis and Brie have such amazing chemistry and timing together that we truly believe their friendship. Highly recommended!
