Number of Times Seen – 1 (27 Mar 2016)
Brief Synopsis – Biopic of one of the biggest sports scandals ever ever when multiple Tour de France racing winner Lance Armstrong was accused of taking steroids.
My Take on it – I have always liked biopics and have been interested in seeing this one for a while because it tells the ‘tragic’ story of a man who became a symbol around the world only to destroy it all by his own actions.
Once again, we get a biopic about a famous person who is willing to do so much and go so far in order to be the best.
Ben Foster does a nice job as Armstrong and he us able to convey to us why he was willing to risk so much over and over again.
Unfortunately, the rest of the characters aren’t as developed as Armstrong and we don’t get to know them or their real motivations as well as we would like.
This also makes distinguishing between certain characters much more difficult and slightly confusing.
We also don’t get enough of an idea as to how difficult and hard the Tour de France really is. I have no real clue as to how long of a race it is because we aren’t even given a slight overview as to what it all entails; it seems like it is assumed that everyone knows what it is.
There are subtle ways that a movie can give the viewer this kind of information and I didn’t happen to notice that they conveyed it to us at any point along the way.
Bottom Line – Very interesting biopic that shows what a person is willing to do in order to be the best no natter the cost. Ben Foster is very good as Armstrong and we understand why he was willing to risk so much. Unfortunately, besides Armstrong the rest of the cast isn’t fleshed out enough and often it gets confusing identifying different characters. Recommended!
