“Could you guys please, shut up. ” – Dumbo
Number of Times Seen – 1 (10 Apr 2016)
Brief Synopsis – After an alien ship hovers over the Earth, they begin a systematic annihilation of the population which takes place over 4 stages. Before the 5th one begins, a small group of survivors attempt to thwart their plans and save the Earth.
My Take on it – I think that we have reached a point where there are just too many Young Adult movies and books and the quality just keeps getting thinner and thinner.
When I saw the preview for this film 6 months ago, I was a bit intrigued, but upon seeing it, I now believe that I really wasted my time watching it.
This movie has no real added value to it.
It feels like they took the plots of Red Dawn (1984), Enders Game (2013), Independence Day (1996) and The Hunger Games (2012), mixed them around a bit and tried to crunch them all together with very little success.
The story here is pretty silly and there is so much that just doesn’t make any sense at all.
I didn’t care for any of the characters and it didn’t matter to me whether they would succeed in their quest to stop the Aliens or not.
The truth actually is that there were more times often than not where I was rooting for the Aliens to win just to end this mess once and for all. 🙂
I know that there are two more books in the series, but I doubt this did well enough for them to greenlight the sequels (which is a good thing because then the actors can find meaningful movie to act in instead of crap like this.)
Bottom Line – What a waste of time. This movie was really really bad. I found this Young Adult film to be just too silly. It tries to be a combination of Red Dawn (1984), Enders Game (2013), Independence Day (1996) and The Hunger Games (2012) all wrapped in one and just doesn’t work well at all. Didn’t care what would happen to anyone and was rooting for the aliens more than the survivors.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – On August 31, 2015, Chloë Grace Moretz revealed that she read the novel this movie is based on 3 times. She said that she was very excited to play her favorite character from the book. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy
