Brief Synopsis – After the White House is attacked by terrorists, a lone secret service agent must save the hostages which includes the President.
My Take on it – Anyone who knows me and my taste in movies knows how much I love Die Hard (1988) and (almost) all of its sequels…let’s forget #5.
So many movies have tried over the years to copy that formula but generally don’t come anywhere close to what that franchise has given us.
This movie is one of the few that I think comes quite close to hitting its mark and itself would be a great addition to the franchise.
The action is superb in so many ways and there really are many ‘nods’ to the original Die Hard that drive a cinephile like me wild!
The drama added to the story via some historical information helps keep us interested and grounded throughout.
The story and plot are planned out quite well here it works extremely well the whole way through the movie.
I actually watched this film again now because I planned to watch its sequel and what better way to enjoy a franchise and refresh your memory at the same time than watching them back to back.
I enjoyed this so much more than I did the first time I saw it and I really can’t even explain why.
Yes, the acting isn’t the kind that would win any awards, but the way the plot is set up and keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time
With this movie, Gerard Butler can now be given the title of the heir to the Die Hard genre thrown in the 21st century.
Bottom Line – One of the few movies in the Die Hard-type genre that would probably be worthy enough to be included in the franchise. Great action, great drama and the story telling is done extremely well here. Butler is the John McClane of the 21st century. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When the Speaker of the House (Morgan Freeman) tells Mike he has 30 min left, there is actually 30 min left to the movie. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (upgrade from original review)
