Did They Get it Right? – Best Original Song – Oscars 2011

DTGIR 2011

Another pitiful Oscar original song year…  Only two nominees when the Golden Globes managed 5.  They chose well between the two, but there are better options out there overall…

Here are the two nominees: (Winner in Bold)

  • “Real in Rio” – Rio • Music: Sérgio Mendes and Carlinhos Brown • Lyrics: Siedah Garrett

  • Man or Muppet” – The Muppets – Music and Lyrics: Bret McKenzie

Song (s) that I think should have been included in the mix: (Not sure if all really are eligible according to Oscar standards…)

  • Hello, Hello – Elton John (Gnomeo and Juliet)

  • Living Proof – Mary J. Blige (The Help)

  • Masterpiece – Madonna (W.E.)

My Rankings:

Songs

  • 2. – Real in Rio
  • 1. – Man or Muppet

Movies

  • 2. – Rio
  • 1. – The Muppets

Do I agree with the Oscar winner? – Yep. Much more memorable song than the one from Rio, but either is fine.  The best song tho is clearly Masterpiece

Let me know what you think about these songs!
