Number of Times Seen – at least 3 times (Theater in ’97, cable and 17 Apr 2016)
Brief Synopsis – A group of out of work friends decide to put on a striptease in order to earn some money to help their troubled financial woes.
My Take on it – I re all hearing the premise if this movie when it came out and it didn’t at all seem kike something that I’d enjoy.
After it got a bunch if award nominations (including an Oscar Best Picture nom), me and a group of friends decided to see what all the hype was about.
Surprisingly, this film works well and is fun mainly because it has great characters who ‘let it all out’ both literally and figuratively.
They discuss their inadequacies and insecurities in a way that makes them all feel so real that we can think of them as being one of our friends or relatives.
The cast here was chosen really well and they all work so well together off one another throughout that it also adds to the realism of the story.
The scene in the unemployment office is so funny and appropriate for this film’s message.
Bottom Line – Funny premise that unexpectedly works quite well. The inadequacies and insecurities of the characters make it feel even more real. Great cast work well off one another. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia –The six leads did in fact perform a full-frontal strip-tease in front of 400 extras. Director Peter Cattaneo described it as “a one-take deal.” (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
