Did They Get it Right? – Best Original Song – Oscars 2010

DTGIR 2010

Yet another year where Oscar voters had a bit of trouble deciding on more than 4 worthy songs.  I personally don;t know the rules they govern by, but it always seems strange to me that they can’t fond 5 eligible songs worthy to be on the list each and every year.

Regardless, the winning song this year was written and performed by Oscar nomineee favorite Randy Newman and he deservingly took home Gold again

Here are the four nominees: (Winner in Bold)

  • “Coming Home” – Country Strong • Music and Lyrics: Tom Douglas, Hillary Lindsey, and Troy Verges

  • “I See the Light” – Tangled • Music: Alan Menken • Lyrics: Glenn Slater

  • “If I Rise” – 127 Hours • Music: A. R. Rahman • Lyrics: Dido and Rollo Armstrong

  • “We Belong Together” – Toy Story 3 – Music and Lyrics: Randy Newman

Song (s) that I think should have been included in the mix: (Not sure if all really are eligible according to Oscar standards…)

  • Bound to You – Christina Aguilera (Burlesque)

  • There’s A Place For Us – Carrie Underwood – (Chronicles of Narnia – Voyage of the Dawn Trader)

  • You Haven’t Seen The Last of Me – Cher (Burlesque)

My Rankings:

  • 4. – Coming Home
  • 3. – If I Rise
  • 2. – I See The Light
  • 1. – We Belong Together

  • 4. – Country Strong (Never Seen)
  • 3. – Tangled
  • 2. – 127 Hours
  • 1. – Toy Story

Do I agree with the Oscar winner? – YES! Randy Newman truly knows how to write and perform great Toy Story theme songs

Let me know what you think about these songs!
