Did They Get it Right? – Best Original Song – Oscars 2006

DTGIR 2006

IMHO, this was yet another weak Oscar Original Song year.  None of the songs are very memorable and once again some of my additions are better than the ones chosen.

Here are the five nominees: (Winner in Bold)

  • “Listen” – Dreamgirls • Music: Henry Krieger and Scott Cutler • Lyrics: Anne Preven

  • “Love You I Do” – Dreamgirls • Music: Henry Krieger • Lyrics: Siedah Garrett

  • “Our Town” – Cars • Music and Lyrics: Randy Newman

  • “Patience” – Dreamgirls • Music: Henry Krieger • Lyrics: Willie Reale

  • “I Need to Wake Up” – An Inconvenient Truth – Music and Lyrics: Melissa Etheridge

Song (s) that I think should have been included in the mix: (Not sure if all really are eligible according to Oscar standards…)

  • Try Not To Remember – Sheryl Crow (Home of the Brave)

  • A Father’s Way – Seal (The Pursuit of Happyness)

  • The Song of the Heart – Prince (Happy Feet)

  • Never Gonna Break My Faith – Bryan Adams (Bobby)

  • Keep Holding On – Avril Lavigne (Eragon)

My Rankings:

Songs

  • 5. – Love You I Do
  • 4. – Patience
  • 3. – Listen
  • 2. – Our Town
  • 1. – I Need to Wake Up

Movies

  • 3. – Dreamgirls
  • 2. – An Inconvenient Truth
  • 1. – Cars

Do I agree with the Oscar winner? – Yes. Of the 5 sings here, this is the best, but I can’t really say I liked any of them that much and none (even the winner) are very memorable

Let me know what you think about these songs!
