Did They Get it Right? – Best Original Song – Oscars 2005

DTGIR 2005

OYYYY!!! A very weak year for movie songs especially seeing who won in the end.  I’m not the biggest fan of Brokeback, but the song from it (which wasn’t even nominated) is so much better.

Here are the five nominees: (Winner in Bold)

  • “In the Deep” – Crash • Music: Kathleen York and Michael Becker • Lyrics: Kathleen York

  • “Travelin’ Thru” – Transamerica • Music and Lyrics: Dolly Parton

  • “It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp” – Hustle & Flow – Music and Lyrics: Juicy J, Frayser Boy and DJ Paul

Song (s) that I think should have been included in the mix: (Not sure if all really are eligible according to Oscar standards…)

  • A Love That Will Never Grow Old – Emmyloo Harris (Brokeback Mountain)

  • WunderkindAlanis Morissette (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe)

  • There’s Nothing Like a Show on Broadway- Mel Brooks (The Producers)

My Rankings:

Songs

  • 3. – It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp
  • 2. – In the Deep
  • 1. – Travellin Thru

Movies

  • 3. – Hustle & Flow (Never Seen)
  • 2. – Transamerica (Never Seen)
  • 1. – Crash

Do I agree with the Oscar winner? – This is another year of travesties. None of these songs are that good and they could have done a much better job choosing nominees.  The most memorable fact here is that Three 6 Mafia won an Oscar.

Let me know what you think about these songs!
