Did They Get it Right? – Best Original Song – Oscars 1994

DTGIR 1994

Continuing Disney Animation’s dominance of these awards, The Lion King had 3 songs nominated this year and all 3 are much better than the other two “token” nominees IMHO.  I think Madonna’s song I’ll Remember from With Honors should have replaced one of the two non -Lion King nominees

Here are the five nominees: (Winner in Bold)

  • “Circle of Life” – The Lion King • Music: Elton John • Lyrics: Tim Rice

  • “Hakuna Matata” – The Lion King • Music: Elton John • Lyrics: Tim Rice

  • “Look What Love Has Done” – Junior • Music and Lyrics: Carole Bayer Sager, James Newton Howard, James Ingram, and Patty Smyth

  • “Make Up Your Mind” – The Paper • Music and Lyrics: Randy Newman

  • Can You Feel the Love Tonight” – The Lion King – Music: Elton John • Lyrics: Tim Rice

Song (s) that I think should have been included in the mix: (Not sure if all really are eligible according to Oscar standards…)

  • I’ll Remember – Madonna (With Honors)

  • Baby, I Love Your Way – Big Mountain (Reality Bites)

My Rankings:

Songs

  • 5. – Look What Love Has Done
  • 4. – Make Up Your Mind
  • 3. – Hakuna Matata
  • 2. – Circle of Life
  • 1. – Can You feel The Love Tonight

Movies

  • 3. – Junior
  • 2. – The Paper
  • 1. – The Lion King

Do I agree with the Oscar winner? – Yes, Can You Feel The Love Tonight is by truly the best among the nominees this year and was very deserving of the win

Let me know what you think about these songs!
