“Just look at him. So sleek. So powerful. So… beautiful, like some great golden god made flesh. Of course, any sensible god would demand absolute obedience in return for his favor. But, no, our Man of Steel protects us, with no strings attached. The people? Hmph. They practically worship him anyway. Enjoy your reign while you may, Superman. For surely as night follows day, there comes a time when even gods must die. ” – Lex Luthor
Number of Times Seen – 1 (9 May 2016)
Brief Synopsis – Based on the comic “The Death of Superman”, the Man of Steel must face his most powerful adversary yet, but who will survive?
My Take on it – In my new quest to watch the Warner Brother / DC superhero animated movies, I came across this one.
The story ityself is pretty good and enjoyable because it deals more with emotional impact on the characters then a battle per se.
I’m not so sure that the title is appropriate for this, but it does meet its purpose properly.
The voice actors are great here (as usual) and we get Adam Baldwin, Anne Heche, James Marsdan, Swoozie Kurtz and Ray Wise doing what they do best.
Kevin Smith has a pretty funny cameo as himself (see Trivia below).
Instead of just a fight to the finish superhero movie, this one gives us much to ponder when trying to understand even more about the impact a superhero has on his community.
Bottom Line – Very interesting story that details what the world would be like if Superman had to face death. Great voice actors lend a hand to telling this tale with a funny cameo by Kevin Smith as himself (see Trivia below). The Man of Steel’s allies and enemies must learn to deal with life without Superman. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Kevin Smith appears animated as himself with one line: “Pff, like we really needed him to bust up the mechanical spider right? Lame!” This is a reference to the requirement made by producer ‘Jon Peters’, that Kevin Smith include a giant spider in the film ‘Superman Lives’, to be given the position of director (the project was canceled, in favor of Superman Returns). Kevin Smith wanted to use the same basic plot of ‘Superman: Doomsday’ for ‘Superman Lives’ (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
