Number of Times Seen – 1 (10 May 2016)
Brief Synopsis – A young rabbit who is the first of her kind to make it into the Police Force, wants to help contribute to keeping the world safe but her size keeps her doing routine work instead of investigating real crimes.
My Take on it – I have been wanting to see this movie for a few months now and was glad to finally get a chance to see what all the hooplah was about.
This movie is done so well and Disney once again hits the mark with one of their animated movies.
The characters are created to be quite interesting and filled with fun and laughter along the way which makes this so enjoyable to watch.
The plot, which deals with tolerance and racism works well, but feels a bit cookie-cutter at certain points when trying to get its message across.
Despite this, it works on numerous levels for both adults and kids alike.
Having said that, I doubt many kids will get the message completely, but there is enough going on for them to be fully enthralled throughout.
The voice actor list is quite impressive. They were able to get Gennifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, Jenny Slate, Bonnie Hunt, JK Simmons, Tommy Chong, Octavia Spencer, Shakeera and Alan Tudyk all contribute to the emotions and believability of their characters and make the characters come to life before us.
This is an excellent addition to the Disney Canon!
Bottom Line – Great addition to the Disney Canon. Fun and interesting characters helps make this so enjoyable. The plot is a bit standard when dealing with issues of tolerance and racism, but still works on numerous levels. The message is probably much more geared towards adults than kids, but there is still much for kids to enjoy from this film. As always with Disney, excellent collection of voice actors make the characters come to life before our eyes. Highly Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Some have speculated that Judy Hopps from Zootopia (2016) is a reference to Judy Hoffs from 21 Jump Street (1987-1991). Other than their remarkably similar names, they are both law enforcement officers who face workplace discrimination. According to Zootopia (2016) Byron Howard, this is “a hilarious but amazing coincidence.” (From IMDB)
Rating – Oscar Worthy
