“Forced” Movie #1 – The Guest (2014)

This is the first of 12 films that I was “forced” to watch by my fellow bloggers who participated in my Blogiversary Contest last month.  This movie was chosen by Prime Six.  Tnx for the suggestion.  Let’s see what I thought of it….

the-guest-teaser-poster“You did the right thing. I don’t blame you. ” – David

Number of Times Seen – 1 (15 May 2016)

Brief Synopsis – After a stranger shows up at their house claiming to be their dead son’s war buddy, a family tries to find out who he really is and what he truly wants from them

My Take on it – This is a great example of a film with a great premise that gets lost along the way because they just didn’t know where to go after a certain point.

The story starts quite well and the film seems to ve going in a certain direction and tgrn mid way it just loses its purpose and goes somewhere else completely for no apparent reason.

The most frustrating thing is that we actually never learn why it goes there and are left trying to guess.

Apparently, I am just not well versed enough in this type of genre and maybe that’s why I got so frustrated.

Bottom Line – Starts off really well and then just goes strange places for no apparent reason. I would gave been happier if things were explained to us a bit better because in the end I just couldn’t understand why certain characters did certain things. Very frustrating that it loses its way.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The screenplay was written in under eight weeks. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy

  1. Disagree I’m afraid! This is literally one of my top 10 movies, LOVE IT!

What are you referring to when you say it goes in a different direction and we’re not told why? Or what character bits didn’t you understand?

I wouldn’t worry about it anyway, we all like different stuff! I love this film but I know it’s not gonna be for everyone.
