Number of Times Seen – 1 (6 Jun 2016)
Brief Synopsis – Four co-eds travel to Ft. Lauderdale to have fun during Spring Break
My Take on it – As a kid of the 80’s, I had heard of this movie, but really had little to no interest in seeing it back then when I was a kid.
Now that I watched the original that this movie is a (sorta) remake of, I decided to venture into Razzie territory to see if this movie really was deserving of the Razzie awards it was nominated for and/or won.
The truth is, this isn’t as bad as it could have been and despite many scenes failing to be entertaining, there are a few that help elevate this films status a bit.
The most interesting thing about watching this film was seeing the difference between the values of the generations of the 60’s and the 80’s.
The version from the 60’s deals with certain themes that I’m surprised didn’t make it into the remake because they would have felt more appropriate for this generation than the last despite it being dealt with quite well in the original.
After 30 years, I must say that I’m glad I finally got to see this one adjacent to seeing the original, but I have little doubt that I will have any urge to see this one ever again because it just doesn’t feel memorable enough on any level.
The only actor in this film who seems to have survived in the “business” over the last 30 years is Christopher McDonald… nobody else was able to really make it out the decade of the 80’s.
Bottom Line – Not nearly as good as the original because that movie had substance to it, this one is just a fun 80’s comedy romp that fails on so many levels. There are some funny scenes, but they can’t help make this film any better. Fun to see how many differences there are between the values of the 1960’s and 1980’s. Glad I finally saw this, but I can’t say that I plan to ever see it again because it just isn’t memorable enough.
