“Everyone say a non-denominational silent prayer to themselves, please.” – Brinda
Number of Times Seen – 1 (7 Jun 2016)
Brief Synopsis – Two sisters travel to their childhood home and decide to throw one last party before their parents sell the place.
My Take on it – This movie works so well because of the chemistry between all of its actors who have mostly worked together in the past on Saturday Night Live (SNL) and on other comedy shows.
Amy Poehler and Tina Fey though have the best chemistry together here and are great as sisters because they know how to work off one another so well after working for so many years together in the past.
Besides Poehler and Fey, the cast consists of Maya Rudolph, Ike Barinholtz, James Brolin, Dianne Wiest, Bobby Moynihan, John Cena, John Leguizamo, Rachel Dratch, Chris Parnell and Samantha Bee who are all superb.
Most of the jokes in this film work and I found myself laughing so much over and over at the way things played out.
Yes, not all of the jokes worked, but that’s par for the course.
There are a bunch of scenes that go a bit over the top, but they still were quite funny within the context of the film and even were able to elicit a laugh despite going too far.
It really is great to see reunion films like this where the cast has already shown how well they can instantly work together to make us enjoy everything going on and just laugh our selves silly.
Bottom Line – Excellent cast of SNL and other comedy show alum who use their proven track record to show us how funny they all can be when working together. Poehler and Fey are great as the sisters. Lots of the jokes work quite well and only a few that fall flat. Some scenes go a bit too far, but they still all usually quite funny. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Pazuzu, the name of the imposing drug dealer played by John Cena, is also the name of the demon that possesses the young girl (Regan MacNeil, played by Linda Blair) in The Exorcist (1973). (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy

Ah, loved watching this film! Not the most original material, but Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are incredible together.

You like this one way more than I. It just didn’t do it for me. Thought it was mostly flat, except for Cena. Biggest issue is it felt like Fey and Poehler should have switched roles.
