Taking a cue from my good friend Vinnie and my new friend Diego, I decided to make a post dedicated to all of my readers.
Is there anything you’d like to know about me (movie-wise or otherwise) but were too shy (or afraid) to ask?
Well, now’s ur chance!
Feel free to ask me anything ur heart desires about my love of movies, my rapid fire ability to watch and review more than 2300 movies in 3 years, my dislike of the horror genre, my nearly 5000 films watched in my lifetime or anything else u can think of!
Huge thanks again to Vinnie and Diego for letting me steal their idea…
Is there a horror film that made you dislike the genre, or is it just not your thing?

Great q Darren. truth is, I’m not sure. For as long as I can remember Ive extremely disliked the genre, but I cant blame a specific movie of my youth. Thanks for participating!

Thanks for the shoutout Rob. My question is, which actress could watch in just about anything?

Interesting q Vinnie. Not an easy one tho. I’d probably say Natalie Portman, but that’s just a guess since u all known that I’ll watch just about anything… 🙂

Which three male or female actors would you most like to bring back to life to star in current films?

That’s actually a great q Alex, but also an easy one for me – Steve McQueen, William Holden and Natalie Wood (all in their primes obviously)

Who of your friends or family read your blog? Who would you like to dress up for a fancy dress party? And if there was a blogging bash near you would you go?

1) only one friend from my youth sporadically reads my blog. most people who I know have no clue that I do this. My wife every sop often reads a post now and then, especially if we saw the movie together
2) don’t think I understand the q, please rephrase
3) not sure how many blogging bashes there are in Israel, but if I ever was near some of my blogging friends geographically, I’d probably consider meeting up
keep em coming Alex!

well, I dressed up as Doc Brown for a Jewish Costume Holiday back in March and I loved the way it came out, but since it’s a fancy dress party, I’d probably go with the usual James Bond look cause Doc would stand out like a sore thumb there. 🙂

All good bro! Here are some standard and random q’s:
1) When and why did you start blogging?
2) What do you do when you’re not reviewing movies?
3) Favourite drink? Alcoholic or otherwise.
4) If you could only eat one food for the rest of you life, what would it be?
5) Most life changing film? Changed the way you think about life or the world?

Great q’s Diego!
1) a bit more than 3 years ago, a friend showed me a movie blog of a friend of his and it gave me the idea to start my own. the irony is that this friend of a friend barely posts anymore
2)I’m ALWAYS watching movies. On an avg I watch 60-80 movies a month, plus a few tv shows. I do have a full time job, so I work sporadically while watching movies 🙂 I also love to spend time with my wife and kids
3)Dont like the taste of alcohol including beer, I’m a coca-cola kind of guy
4) Probably hamburgers or french fries (chips to u Brits) with lots of ketchup and mayo
5) The Rookie (2002) with Dennis Quaid

Have you ever had a moment of not knowing what movie to watch, and if so, how do you decide?

Excellent q Allie. All the time. When one watches 3 movies a day (on avg), it all depends on my mood at the time. Some of the movies on my (ever-expanding list) have been stuck there for years because I’m just not in the mood for it, while others are watched the same day I get them. Sometimes, I just flip a coin between a few choices.

Q: Did you develop your current “subheadings” style of reviewing over time or is it what you started with? Do you thing prose type/essay reviews are better or worse and have you tried anything substantially different through the years? Finally: where do you see your movie blog in say 5 years? 😉 Thanks for tagging me!
LikeLiked by 1 person
Excellent q’s Damien!
Its actually what I started with. I only added the trivia after a year or so to make things a bit more interesting.
I like the structure because it allows people to decide what they want to read depending on how much time they want to devote to my reviews.
To get a full gist of my thoughts, first one can look at the rating, followed by the Bottom Line or read the whole review which expands on the bottom line.
Some of my reviews are slightly different, but I like the structure.
5 years? I hope to be well beyond 5000 reviews by then :), but at my current rate, I should be by 5600 or so 🙂

Great answers! I love your format, especially how the different subheadings give the reader a chance to read your review or just get some particulars. I’m still looking for a standard format. I like Ebert’s essay style but the idea of a series of standard subheadings appeals to me as well. The spoiler is always a looming specter: whether to include and notify or always leave out. Then again, some people view all details as spoiler material so the subheading way may be the best. Thanks!

Here’s one: how much do you rely on Rotten Tomatoes / IMDB / other large community rating systems as valid for the quality of a film before you see it?
LikeLiked by 1 person
It gives it some weight, but I prefer to see what the plot is about and that usually is enough to decide since I hate spoilers. Exsmple – a while back I watched a movie that I looked up on imdb before watching and one of the plot keywords was death by car accident which basically told me the ending. .. suffice it to say, I wasn’t so happy because of that

I know what you mean. Darren tells me he doesn’t watch trailers much because of that and I agree, they tend to give it all away. I had a dilemma yesterday. My family was thinking about going to the movies to see the new “Through the Looking Glass” film. RT had it at a very low percentage but my son’s 16 y/o g/f said she loved it! Hmmm. We didn’t go but it’s funny how sometimes, our own guttural, personal response to films is 5/5 when the RT or IMDB score is very low. Interesting answer thanks again! 🙂 I’ll try and be stopping by more now that I’m on Summer break. 🙂

Yeah, it’s a 185 day contract. The next one starts Aug 6. It’s also nice being able to catch a matinee after work with the wife & kids once in a while. You have to be cut out for it tho. If it’s not your thing, even a 60 day contract would kill ya.

it would probably be a thriller that I have a great idea for (been mulling it over for 15 years), but will probably never be able to actualize

Great challenge, Rob!
How do you manage to get access to all these movies?
Watching so many films, do you ever feel like you’re just skimming or paying more attention to some than others?
Is there a certain Oscar year that you agreed with all the Academy’s choices?
What are your favorite TV shows?

Great q’s
1) I’m talented:)
2) Of course, especially the ones that I dont feel a connection for, sometimes it’s a chore to finish a bad (or even terrible) movie, so I pay less attention. IT drives my wife crazy that I’ll suffer through a movie I dont like cause she’ll just change the channel if it gets bad
3) I assume u mean or Best Pic? 1994 or 1999 are two of my favorite Oscar BP years (Forrest Gump, Shawshank, Pulp Fiction, Four Weddings and Quiz Show) (Green Mile, Sixth Sense, American Beauty, Cider House Rules and The Insider)
4) all time or now?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I know what you mean about finishing bad movies. My VC is the same way, content to switch off whatever doesn’t interest her, but unless it’s something really offensive, I usually like to stick with whatever I start.
I actually meant for all the Academy categories. Usually there’s at least one I think could have gone a better way.
As for TV shows, how about favorites both of all time and now.

With 30+ categories that’s impossible! Allyime is prob West Wing or Quantum Leap. Now it prob is Big Bang Theory
