Magic Mike (2012)

Number of Times Seen – 1 (20 Jun 2016)

Brief Synopsis – A male stripper takes a new recruit under his wing and starts to fall for his friend’s sister while trying to earn enough cash to start his own business.

My Take on it – I have avoided seeing this movie for years due to having little desire to see a movie clearly made solely for women to be able to gawk at male flesh.

This is fine because it actually feels like payback after so many years of hollywood making movies like this but with the gender roles reversed.

The only reason I watched this is because of the fact that Damien of Flashback/Backtrack requested that I review the sequel (review will be up immediately after this one).

Channing Tatum is good here probably because he wasn’t really acting; prior to becoming an actor, he stripped in order to make money.

The plot itself is extremely thin, but I can completely understand why many women and some men would want to see it again and again for all the exposed flesh.

Bottom Line – Overall, this movie has little to offer besides lots of male flesh. The plot is quite thin and many scenes feel like they are there just to show off the dancer’s moves and flesh. Channing Tatum is fine here and that may be because he used to do this for a living before getting into acting. Definitely feels like payback to the women of the world after so many movies have already done this kind of plot with reversed gender roles

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The film is loosely based on Channing Tatum’s experiences as a male exotic dancer before hitting it big as a movie star.  (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
