“I have been to many stakings- you have to know where to stand! You know, everything in life is location, location, location… ” – Van Helsing
Number of Times Seen – 1 (27 Jun 2016)
Brief Synopsis – A spoof of the monster movies featuring the vampire Count Dracula
My Take on it – There’s usually a reason why filmmakers stop making new movies and this seems to have been Brooks’ reason.
This non funny spoof of Dracula movies just isn’t humorous at all and almost every attempted joke falls completely flat.
Eventhough Brooks tried very hard here and despite having the ever funny spoof staple Leslie Nielsen join the party and play the title role, it just doesn’t work well enough to meet the standards of what Brooks brought us in his youth.
This film also features a number of Brooks’ usual players like Harvey Korman, but they too can’t help find a way to revive this dead as a door nail unfunny script.
Pity….
Bottom Line – Once again Brooks disappoints here and it’s no wonder he stopped making films after this one. Even Niesel a spoof movie staple falls flat as the title character. Once again nice to see some of Brooks’ usual suspects join in but even they can’t help this non funny spoof even appear to look alive.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – For the scene in which Harker puts a stake in Lucy’s heart, director ‘Mel Brooks’ did not tell him that he would be subsequently covered in two hundred gallons of blood, so that his reaction would appear natural. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy

It’s so bad! I never thought Leslie Nielsen could be unfunny but this film managed it!

Although it’s not very funny, it is a nearly perfect reconstruction of Dracula – with attempts of jokes here and there. I think it is a meh movie, but I wish Mel had kept directing.
Don’t forget to read my contribution to the blogathon! 🙂
Cheers!
