Number of Times Seen – 1 (3 Jul 2016)
Brief Synopsis – A punk rock band accidentally witnesses a crime while at a gig and must try and get away from the perpetrators who keep them locked up.
My Take on it – This is the kind of movie that upon hearing teh premise, I really wasn’t very interested in seeing, but the fact that numerous friends thought so highly of it, I decided to nevertheless give it a shot.
Boy am I glad that I did.
This was a very intense thriller which stays intense throughout its entire 90+ minute run time.
You never know what lurks around the corner for the band members and you also get surprised over and over as the unexpected kept happening.
Some people have called this film a horror film, but I disagree with that entirely because it is so much more a thriller than horror. I would explain what I mean by that, but that would give away too many spoilers and in order to keep this spoiler-free, I’ll end the thought this way.
The star here is the recently gone Anton Yelchin who is superb here. His loss is a sad one for Hollywood because he hadn’t yet even reached his potential and movies like this show that he did possess that potential. I can’t wait to see him as Chechov in a few weeks in the latest Star Trek flick.
Besides Yelchin, Patrick Stewart is great here because he plays a very calm and collected character who is the opposite of what we are used to seeing him do.
This isn’t perfect, but I do plan to see it again in order to once again watch how it all plays out.
Bottom Line – Amazing performance by Yelchin. The suspense is kept up throughout because you really don’t know what will happen. Very intense thriller which keeps you on your guard the entire time. Stewart is also great here and plays the kind of character that one wouldn’t expect. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Patrick Stewart said in an interview that when he received the script at his country home in England, it was so terrifying that he locked up his house, turned on the security system and poured himself a Scotch. He then knew that he wanted to play the Darcy Banker role because a character that horrifying would be an incredible challenge and make for a compelling film. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
