“The moment we stop fighting for each other, that’s the moment we lose our humanity.” – Adrian Helmsley
Number of Times Seen – 1 (11 Jul 2016)
Brief Synopsis – As climate changes begin happening, it seems as if the world may truly be coming to the end. A government scientist and a struggling writer try to find a way to save their families and friends from the catastrophic events.
My Take on it – Supposedly, Director Roland Emmerich declared that this was to be his final disaster movie (see Trivia section below), so he went all out and did it in style.
This is a completely mindless disaster movie and there is little plot that really needs to be followed, but the visual effects are what make it worth watching.
I saw this the first time in the theater and that is obviously the ideal place to view a natural disaster spectacle like this.
The amount of destruction that the Earth endures here is amazing and despite the plot itself being silly, it’s so much fun to just sit back and watch it all happen.
The characters we are introduced to here are all potential canon fodder and therefore each and every one of them are developed paper thinly so we don’t care so much if and when they meet their demise.
The story itself is very unrealistic, but who cares because it’s still lots and lyts of fun.
This isn’t the kind of movie to watch if you’re in the mood for a serious flick, but for the comedic aspects of watching the world get destroyed or just to watch the spectacle of it all, it can be quite an experience to watch unfold.
Bottom Line – Great disaster movie because it really is a brainless destructive film. Yes, completely unrealistic but the visuals make it extremely fun to watch unfold. The storyline is secondary here and we don’t care much about the characters because the whole point is the watch the end of the world from natural causes. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – In an interview by USA Today, Roland Emmerich said that this will be his final disaster film, “I said to myself that I’ll do one more disaster movie, but it has to end all disaster movies. So I packed everything in.” He ended up doing several more, including a sequel to Independence Day, released in summer 2016. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy

Couldn’t agree more! Characters with the dimensions of a postit note, which never makes for a great movie.

A very tedious film and John Cusack seemed embarrassed throughout.
