Mr. Nobody (2009)

MrNobody “You have to make the right choice. As long as you don’t choose, everything remains possible.” – Nemo

Number of Times Seen – 1 (14 Jul 2016)

Brief Synopsis – The life line of the last human is explored as we see snippets of his life and the choices he made throughout his 118 years.

My Take on it – I can’t even recall who recommended this film to me months ago, but I finally decided to give it a try.

(I  apologize to whomever recommended this because I assume that they loved it, which as you will soon see, I didn’t)

Unfortunately, I found this film a real chore to get through because it just didn’t make any sense to me until the very end.

In my book (and vast movie watching experience), 2.5 hours (about 150 minutes) is too long of a time frame to try and get someone to understand what is going on in a film.

The ending does make sense but getting there was too painful of an experience because those chose to go the existentialist way to try and get us there.

I personally prefer films that keep me interested throughout, but this one wasn’t able to do that because of the way it is shot and edited.

Despite understanding it all by the end, I  doubt I would ever be willing to spend another 2.5 hours watching this film.

I’m sure there are thousands if not millions of people who loved this film and the way it was shot, but I cannot be counted among them.

The cast is pretty good with Jared Leto, Sarah Polley, Diane Kruger and Rhys Ifans doing fine jobs despite their help in keeping this film too esoteric for someone like me.

Bottom Line – Extremely boring film that is waay too existential for someone like me. By the end, I finally understood the point, but it was too painful an experience getting there that I can never imagine even contemplating seeing this again.  Competent cast helps this a bit, but not enough to make this film feel watchable.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Nemo is Latin for “nobody”. Odysseus gave the name “nobody” to the Cyclops. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy
