This post is my 6th entry in this month’s A Timely Blogathon being run by Anna of Film Grimoire and myself.
Stick around to see (at least) one new entry a day from many of the talented writers who have joined us in watching and reviewing films under 90 minutes long.

Number of Times Seen – 1 (12 Jul 2016)
Brief Synopsis – A teenager living with strict parents enters a dance contest in order to be featured on a local dance and music show.
My Take on it – Yea, that plot synopsis above rings true for so many films from the 80’s and remains a testament to the kind of movies that were made back then.
This is a film that I’ve seen bits and pieces of over the last 3+ decades, but can’t recall ever seeing it straight thru start to finish.
My sister loved it back then and would watch it on a loop, so I probably saw the entire thing a few times, just not in chronological order.
Great to see Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt in this before they both became household names.
The best thing about this film is the music; they have some great songs including the cover of the title song (which I think is better and catchier than the original Cyndi Lauper song).
Along with 80’s music galore, this film has lots of other endearing characteristics of the 80’s; fashion, hairstyles, dialogue and of course the weekly dance and music show that EVERYONE wants to be a part of.
Unfortunately, this film isn’t able to stand the test of time and doesn’t translate very well to our time.
Bottom Line – Great catchy theme song, the story is extremely 80’s and unfortunately, doesn’t age well enough to our time. Besides the theme song, this movie has some great 80’s music and fashion and who can forget the 80’s dance craze. Plot is typical 80’s fare. Nice to see Parker and Hunt before they made names for themselves.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Notable for featuring Cyndi Lauper’s song made famous in 1983 in its title and soundtrack, but instead uses a similar cover version by Deborah Galli. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
