“I have abandonment issues! ” – Kristen
Number of Times Seen – 1 (20 Jul 2016)
Brief Synopsis – Numerous interweaving stories of families living in Atlanta and how much their lives revolve around the holiday of Mother’s Day.
My Take on it – This is a film that I didn’t feel any urgency to see, but since my wife saw the trailer a few months back, she requested that we watch it when we get a chance, so the good husband in me kept an eye out for it and when we had a chance, we watched it.
I must say that I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.
The cast definitely helps make this even more fun thatn it probably even should be; Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Julia Roberts, Kate Hudson, Robert Pine, Margo Martindale, Sarah Chalke, Timothy Olyphant, Aasif Mandvi and Hector Elizondo are all wonderful in their roles.
The stories themselves are stereotypical but still remain interesting to watch as they unfold before our eyes.
Garry Marshal was a great filmmaker and it’s somewhat fitting that this was his final film because he goes out with a nice bang here.
I think that perhaps the characters make the day of Mother’s Day into a more festive holiday than most people treat it, but that doesn’t take away from the fun-ness of the movie.
I really have begun to enjoy Jason Sudeikis’ roles lately because he is slowly showing us his range of acting abilities.
He is no longer considered just a comedian and has given us some great serious dramatic performances lately.
He is definitely an actor to keep an eye on because I predict big things for him in the future.
Bottom Line – Great cast helps make this film lots of fun to watch. The stories of the characters are all interesting to watch unfold despite some being very stereotypical. It’s fitting that this was Marshall’s final film because he definitely went out with a nice bang. Sudeikis is slowly showing he has great acting abilities and is one to look out for as a serious contender for awards in the future. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This is the 18th time Hector Elizondo has appeared in a Garry Marshall-directed film. He has appeared in every Marshall film on the big screen. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
