This post is my 9th entry in this month’s A Timely Blogathon being run by Anna of Film Grimoire and myself.
Number of Times Seen – probably about 5 times (Numerous times on cable in the 80’s and 19 Jul 2016)
Brief Synopsis – After their father goes away on a cattle drive, a family and their newly acquired dog living on the frontier must keep themselves safe from wild animals and other dangers.
My Take on it – I haven’t seen this movie in probably thirty years and despite knowing the ending (like everyone in the wotld besides Phoebe Buffet) I still enjoyed rewatching this.
Thankfully I didnt recall anything about the story besides the ending so in some ways it really didn’t feel like a rewatch.
I actually watched the infamous episode of Friends again to try and relive the emotional impact of the film but even that didn’t help me tear up.
Guess I’ve become too emotionless when it comes to films like this one.
Yes, the movie isn’t all a happy one but it still gives us a realistic look at life on the frontier.
I’m quite glad I finally rewatched it and it’s really a great fit for this blogathon
Bottom Line – Not as emotional now as it was when I was a kid but still fun to rewatch such a classic. Thankfully I didnt remember most of it so in some ways it didn’t feel like a rewatch. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The wolf that fights with Old Yeller is actually not a wolf at all. It was a German Shepherd made to look like a wolf. Both animals were trained to play-fight and were muzzled for that sequence. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
