“[a the cemetery, declining to join the funeral group] At my age, you don’t want to get too close to an open grave. ” – Vince
Number of Times Seen – at least twice (Cable in the 90’s and 2 Aug 2016)
Brief Synopsis – A man and woman meet at a wedding that makes them relatives and they form a bond of friendship that is further complicated by an affair between their spouses.
My Take on it – This is another film that I recalled fondly but upon rewatch, I noticed that despite having a very interesting plot, just doesn’t work as well as it should.
Ted Danson doesn’t normally come across as an actor that one would put in a serious romance film and he feels very out of place here as the male lead. He also unfortunately has no chemistry with his costar Isabella Rossellini who plays the character of an innocent woman so well.
The supporting cast is quite good with William Petersen, Sean Young ,George Coe and Keith Coogan doing fine jobs.
But it is Lloyd Bridges who manages to steal every scene he is in and we wish to see him in even more
Bottom Line – This is a film with an interesting plot but it just doesn’t click as well as it should. Ted Danson feels a bit out of his comfort zone here and unfortunately has no chemistry with the sultry Isabella Rossellini . Nice supporting cast, but Bridges steals every scene he appears in.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The movie’s two male leads, Ted Danson and William Petersen, would both later on star as the chief forensic investigator on the popular TV crime series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2000), Petersen pioneering the part with Danson being his second replacement, after Laurence Fishburne. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
