The Jungle Book (2016)

jungle book“Am I in the right monkey temple? ” – Baloo

Number of Times Seen – 1 (7 Aug 2016)

Brief Synopsis – A live action retelling of the story of a young boy raised by wolves in the jungles of India and his journey to find his own kind.

My Take on it – I always have enjoyed the story of the Jungle Book.

Ive seen the Disney animated film lots of times and even sometimes read the story to my kids at bedtime.

When I heard that Disney had decided to start making live action films of some of their animated classics, I must say I was quite skeptical.

Why tamper with something that is a classic and worked so well in animated form.

When this came out back in the spring, I heard from numerous people how good this film is and became mire intrigued to see it.

They do a wonderful job here of adapting the original Rudyard Kipling novel and the way that the animals and scenery are created via special effects really enhances the experience.

The effects are done so well that its so easy to believe that the animals are real and all interactions between them are really happening which is quite mind blowing because its so easy to forget that they are completely computer generated.

The voice cast is superb and really adds to the atmosphere; Ben Kinsley, Bill Murray, Idris Elba, Scarlett Johanson, Lupita Nyong’o, Giancarlo Esposito, Garry Shandling and Christopher Walken all prove their worth as great actors here.

The standout obviously is the lone live action actor here Neel Sethi who at just 12 shows that he potentially has a long career as an actor if he so chooses.

Bottom Line – Very fun adaptation of this classic Kipling tale that is enhanced by the way that they merged special effects and live action. Amazing voice cast helps make this feel both familiar and unique at the same time.  The effects are amazingly done that it’s easy to believe that the animals and situations are real and not all computer generated. Recommended!
