Movies From the Hat IV – #2 – Diego’s Pick – Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil (2010)

This is my 2461st Review

Thanks to Diego of Lazy Sunday Movies for this recommendation.

tucker_dale_vs_evil-2 “[Unsure of what to say to the sheriff] Oh hidy ho officer, we’ve had a doozy of a day. There we were minding our own business, just doing chores around the house, when kids started killing themselves all over my property. ” – Tucker

Number of Times Seen – 1 (28 Aug 2016)

Brief Synopsis – Two hillbillies on vacation in the woods meet a bunch of college kids who they think are trying to murder them.

My Take on it – As many of you already know, I’m not the biggest fan of horror films and even films that fit into the subgenre of horror/comedy usually don’t make me enjoy them even more.

When Diego suggested this film, I was a bit nervous to watch it, but I knew that he has given me some great recommendations in the past, that maybe the premise I read was much better than it seems.

Unfortunately, it isn’t.

I found most of the jokes in the film to be way too silly for my taste.

On the other hand, I could see how people who enjoy the genre could really find this film to be much better than it probably deserves to be.

Both Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk are good here as the Hillbillies, but their antics get too old and too tired too quickly.

It all gets a bit too repetitious which takes away from the enjoyment of the film (for me at least).

The horror deaths portrayed here are a bit funny in the way they happen, but overall, it’s just average.

This is actually a film that I had hoped to like much more than I did but still can respect others for liking it more than I did.

Bottom Line – Not really my cup of tea. I found most of the jokes silly but can see how people who like horror movies would extremely enjoy this film. Labine and Tudyk are fun here, but their antics get a bit boring pretty quickly because they feel too repetitious.  That being said, I wanted to like it more, but just couldn’t.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The film was shelved for over 3 years before it was finally released. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy

  1. This is one of my favourite horror comedies, i found the kills very funny after seeing too many horrors. the other reasons i feel it works is because usually we would follow the teenagers and the creepy hillbillies but the twist tackles not judging books by cover cliche.
