Brief Synopsis – A British crime figure must take on two final tasks before he can retire from the business.
My Take on it – I always have loved watching a fun crime caper, but have been a bit disillusioned lately with many of the Guy Ritchie kind because they try to be too clever and complicated instead of just telling us a great story.
This film really does a great job of doing just that; the story is a fun crime caper that keep surprising and thrilling every minute along the way.
You really have little idea what to expect in each subsequent scene.
Daniel Craig wasn’t really a leading man before this film and he does an excellent job of showing what he can do if given the chance.
I have read (see Trivia below) that his role in this film was the reason he got the James Bond gig and I can completely agree that they made the correct choice based just on this performance.
The rest of the cast is also great here and they help make this film more thrilling and more fun because of the different kind of personalities that they all portray.
I must say tho, that this film is VERY British and for those seeking a Quentin Tarantino kind of crime thriller, you will find this to be a bit different.
That being said, if you go in with the right attitude, the British factor doesn’t take away much from this being a very good film.
Bottom Line – Great crime caper that keeps surprising the whole way through. Craig showed that he is an excellent lead actor here and really done a take control job as this character. Rest of the cast helps make this both fun and thrilling. VERY Btitish kind of film, but that doesn’t take away much from the way things play out. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – It was Daniel Craig’s performance in this film that caused Barbara Broccoli to take notice and think Craig might be a good fit for James Bond. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
