Brief Synopsis – In order to impress a girl, a young Irish teenager tells her  that he is in a band. This lie prompts him to form a band with fellow classmates.

My Take on it – This is a film that I have been somewhat interested in seeing for a while both because I’ve heard numerous people have it on their lists of the best films of 2016.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of Once (2007), but I really liked Begin Again (2013), so I wasn’t quite sure which John Carney to expect.

I obviously knew that the music would be superb because that is what he does best, but the question for me was whether the story would hold up.

Those of you who know me, know that I’m a fan of everything 80’s and this movie really delivers in that aspect.

The clothes, hairstyles, lingo and even the music all fit into the era of the 80’s so well.

The young actors were all great here and I found the story to feel quite believable despite not knowing much about life in Dublin during the 80’s.

The characters are all interesting and it was quite easy to care what would happen to them as things began to move along.

As with all of Carney’s films, this movie also focuses on musicians and the songs created for this film all have the correct 80’s music feel for them and as a bonus are also catchy tunes.

I really hope at least one of them gets an Oscar Nomination for Best Original Song.  My favorite was Drive it Like You Stole It, but they are all excellent.

Of the 25 films that I’ve watched so far for this series, this is by far my favorite new movie and is quite possibly my favorite overall.

We’ll see after I finish watching all the films where I think this one stands

Bottom Line – Excellent film that drew me in from the start and didn’t wanna let go. Loved the 80’s vibe that reverberated throughout including music, hairstyles and of course wardrobes. Great young actors are able to keep us interested and we care so much about what happens to them all.  The original music for the film is so catchy and it really all feels like 80’s music.  My favorite new film of this series so far. Highly Recommended!
