Number of Times Seen – 1 (12 Sep 2016)
Brief Synopsis – A US Congressman gets into a lot of trouble due to his seemingly lax ways but upon visiting a group of his constituents he finds a cause to fight for that he believes in.
My Take on it – This is a film that I heard about a few months back and was immediately intrigued to see it.
Not only am I a fan of films revolving around the political process, but I have almost always enjoyed Treat Williams performances.
He is great here in the title role and it is so easy to believe that he is indeed a modern day politician.
This isn’t a fast paced film and the buildup is quite slow touching upon many seemingly extraneous plot points that all come together later on to give us even more satisfaction with it all.
The characters all feels real and to believe that they are genuine people and that we are being shown a reflection of real events is not such a large leap to make despite knowing that this is a true work of fiction.
This isn’t the kind of film that will garner many awards, but it’s a nice political-dramatic sleeper about who people really are deep down inside.
Bottom Line – Williams is great here in the title role and its easy to believe his character as a modern day politician. The buildup here is a bit slow but by the end even some plot points that seem extraneous help bring everything together. The characters all feel quite genuine and we can believe this to be a reflection of true events despite it being fiction. Not a film that will reap in many awards but a nice dramatic sleeper regardless. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The tide was so strong it made shooting water scenes difficult, especially nocturnal shots. The boats couldn’t be anchored or attached to land because the currant was so strong the boats immediately disappeared from the frame. Conditions were better farther out to sea. It took over an hour to maneuver boats to get 15 or 20 seconds of usable footage. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
