Number of Times Seen – 1 (27 Sep 2016)
Brief Synopsis – Jason Bourne is back to try and find out even more about his past
My Take on it – I must admit that besides the first film in this franchise, I haven’t really loved most of them.
This film takes up after the last movie and continues the story, but it mostly feels as if it is standing still instead of really moving forward because it lacks enough momentum.
It was nice to see Matt Damon back in the role, but again, his appearance doesn’t help move things forward enough and it just seems like a retread of the previous movies.
The one thing that works here (like usual) are the action scenes which some can actually be called spectacularly shot by director Paul Greengrass.
Unfortunately though in the end, this is just an average addition to the franchise and instead of taking up a notch, it just keeps it in the same place it was before which is kind of a letdown
Bottom Line – Solid story, but I didn’t feel it was needed because it seems to just tread water most of the time instead of move forward. Damon is ok here, but also doesn’t add enough uniqueness to the story. Great action scenes help this out a bit, but it really is an average addition to this franchise instead of taking it up a notch.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Matt Damon has stated numerous times that he would only return to the Bourne franchise to reprise his role as Jason Bourne if Paul Greengrass would return for directorial duties on the project. Damon & Greengrass announced their return to the franchise in November 2014 for a new installment. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
