Stranger Things (2016)

stranger-things“Friends don’t lie” – Eleven

Number of Times Seen – 1 (26 Sep 2016)

Brief Synopsis – After a young boy mysteriously disappears, his friends, mother and the local sheriff try to figure out what happened to him

My Take on it – For the past two months, I have been hearing from so many people how great a miniseries this is and finally succumbed to watch it.

As many of you know, I’m a big fan of the 80’s , it’s movies and it’s influence on us all and this movie does a great job reproducing that effect.

The story takes place in the 80’s and there is a constant feeling that it keeps using the elements that made Steven Spielberg and Stephen King stories work and connect with so many people.

The cast of practical unknowns is great here and it makes it feel even more real because of it.

Winona Ryder gets top billing here and she is great, but the 5 kids, completely outshine her here.

I liked the way the mystery unfolded and how we get little clues along the way as to what is really happening.

I did find the climax a bit too supernatural for my taste, but besides that, everything is done quite solidly.

I liked how they left us lots of questions that can be answered or just expanded on when they made the second season of this.

When that second season comes out, I doubt I’ll wait two months to watch it tho, so despite not loving it, I still liked it immensely mainly due to the fact that it was perfectly nostalgic and filled with nuances that helped take me back to my childhood in the 80’s.

Bottom Line – This is a movie that really uses the elements that made 80’s films from King and Spielberg work.  Great cast, especially the kids. Got a bit too supernatural for me towards the end, but it still is quite solid a story. Can’t wait to see what happens next. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The official poster for the series was created by Kyle Lambert. It was done in an art style inspired by acclaimed poster/album artwork artist Drew Struzan, who has created official posters for Star Wars (1977), “Indiana Jones,” Back to the Future (1985), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), and several others (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy
