For this month’s second Toptober Tens, Here are my Top Ten Favorite Stephen King Movie Adaptations.
According to IMDB, King has 220 writing credits on movies. I personally haven’t seen all of his films, but I love so many of the ones that I’ve seen.
As you’ll see from the list below, my personal preferences mostly come from his non-horror movies, but that usually has much to do with the fact that he is an amazing writer who can create so many great and developed characters no matter what the genre.
Some of my favorite books of his aren’t on this list because the adaptations just aren’t as good as they could have been.
For instance, I absolutely loved 11.22.63, but the film just went in the completely wrong direction.
If I had made a list of his books that book would be in my top 5 for sure.
Keep in mind, that these are all solely my opinion and part of what I would like to do is open conversation and dialogue between us all over the choices in these lists
10. The Dead Zone (1983)
9. A Good Marriage (2014)
8. Needful Things (1993)
7. Misery (1990)
6. IT (1990)
5. The Running Man (1987)
4. The Stand (1994)
3. The Green Mile (1999)
2. Stand By Me (1986)
- The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Haven’t seen the bottom few, but the top picks are beyond reproach. I’d have The Shining somewhere in there too. Surprised that The Running Man is higher than Misery!
