The Division: Agent Origins (2016)

td“There is a division that is activated during a catastrophic emergency. A safety switch when all else fails. I’m part of that division. Our objective is simple: Restore Law and Order.” – John

Number of Times Seen – 1 (23 Oct 2016)

Brief Synopsis – A team of special agents must try to stop terrorists after an outbreak happens in New York City

My Take on it – This is a film that despite my average rating is much better than it would seem.

They do a great job of introducing us to the story and characters but then things just hit a standstill.

The action and effects are done extremely well despite the apparent low budget.

The story basically ends midway and doesn’t give us enough answers as one would expect from a stand alone film.

I’m aware of the video game connection but when watching a movie, I want the experience to not rely on prior knowledge from other sources but rather be completely self contained here.. no matter the length.

There just isn’t enough ‘meat’ in the story presented here and I’d be quite happy to see these characters in a more complete story in the future.

Bottom Line – Well done in general but seems more like the first page of a book instead of a full story. Leaves us with too many questions that remain unanswered. I’m aware of the video game connection but this story needed more meat despite seeming to be going in the right direction.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Set in NYC, but filmed in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, including an old casket factory that is now artists lofts.  (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
