Number of Times Seen – 1 (29 Oct 2016)
Brief Synopsis –A year after the events of Finding Nemo (2003), Dory sets off to find her parents.
My Take on it – I have always been a huge fan of PIXAR’s animated films and this was actually one of the few that I was a bit disappointed with.
Despite being a sequel, I had hoped that things wouldn’t fit the same kind of pattern as the original but there were too many instances where it felt as if they were trying to recreate the magic of the original instead of finding it’s own unique voice.
The story just didn’t feel as fun as most of the previous PIXAR films and I think part of the problem is the fact that they have raised the bar so high, they just couldn’t reach it.
The animation, as always is still superb and I was amazed numerous times at how real some of the animation seems.
The supporting characters felt a bit forced in some instances and some of the characters just weren’t utilized well enough and they feel extraneous instead of being part of the action.
This movie actually has some good messages, but they get too lost in the shuffle along the way because of the way the story is structured.
Let’s hope PIXAR gets back on track with the next movie because this one and The Good Dinosaur (2015) just weren’t up to par.
I truly wish that these are two bumps in the road instead of a overall trend.
Bottom Line – Not as fun as most of the previous PIXAR films. Has some very interesting messages, but those messages can easily get lost here due to the way the story moves. Some of the supporting characters seem like they were just added for no real helpful reason and I think that PIXAR in this case at least set the bar too high and just couldn’t reach it.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Hank has only seven tentacles because the animators realized they could not fit eight onto his body. His backstory was rewritten to account for the missing limb. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
