Number of Times Seen – 1 (26 Oct 2016)

Brief Synopsis – Documentary about the amazing rescue mission of the passengers of Air France flight by Israeli special forces in July 1976 from an airport located in Entebbe Uganda.

My Take on it – Being a former Israeli soldier and an Israeli citizen, I have always been proud of the accomplishments made by our Special Forces 40 years ago when a planeload of passengers of an Air France flight were taken hostage by terrorists and flown to Uganda.

I have seen all 3 of the movies made about this effective military mission and have even met a few of the soldiers who took part in this operation.

I was happy to see that despite my previous knowledge of the events of that crisis, this film was able to educate me even more as to what happened.

This documentary uses its time effectively and in less than an hour gives us a complete overview of all of the events that led up to and occurred in July 1976.

The made some excellent choices in who to interview because they manage to give us numerous viewpoints from different aspects of the whole mission; we get interviews with former hostages, soldiers, politicians, reporters and even the pilot of the plane himself.

The use of footage from the three movies made about the event and real news footage are superbly utilized here in order to give us some great visuals as to what happened during the raid itself.

Bottom Line – Excellent job of retelling of this heroic and dangerous tale. Loved the choices of interviewees in order to give us so many perspectives of the crisis from the personal, political and military angles. Really liked how they use recreated scenes of what happened by utilizing the footage from the movies made in the 70’s to help us visualize key scenes. Highly Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Uses footage from Raid on Entebbe (1976) and Operation Thunderbolt (1977) to recreate action scenes of events (From IMDB)
