“So…I promised some people with money that if they gave me some of their money, I’d make them a movie about money… This is that film about money” – James Schamus
Number of Times Seen – 1 (30 Oct 2016)
Brief Synopsis – Short documentary that explains how the US banking system works.
My Take on it – I have taken two very looong courses on Economics in my life and came away from both not understanding very much about how it all works.
This film in less than 15 minutes taught me what I couldn’t comprehend in those courses about how the banking system works and I was truly enlightened by it all.
Writer/Director James Schamus was able to make this topic both interesting and informative for people like me who really don’t have a clue.
He takes a seemingly complex system and explains it effectively in a very simplistic way.
Bottom Line – Very interesting and informative film that effectively explains what seems like a complex system in simple terms.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – My few minutes’ contribution to the endeavor, in the classic form of an ‘educational video,’ goes for a couple of takeaways: primarily, that no one who watches my films will ever again be able to think of money and banks as ‘natural’ objects, but rather will see them as sites of profound and enduring social and political struggles – struggles that everyone has a right to participate in.” (From We The Economy)
Rating – Oscar Worthy
