Number of Times Seen – 1 (30 Oct 2016)
Brief Synopsis – After his owner gets a new dog to live with them, a disgruntled little dog tries to get rid of the new dog by taking him into the city where he will hopefully get lost.
My Take on it – This is a film that I decided to watch on the recommendation of my wife and two sons who all extremely enjoyed it and hoped I would to.
I didn’t really know much about this film before seeing it and was pleasantly surprised that it was basically a version of Toy Story (1995) with pets.
The idea that a pet would get jealous and feel resentful when his/her owner would get a new pet works really well here and leads o some very fun scenes.
The voice cast is superb here and Louis C.K. and Eric Stonestreet are lots of fun as the two leads. In addition, they are helped by Kevin Hart, Lake Bell, Bobby Moynihan, Jenny Slade, Albert Brooks and the always amazing Dana Carvey.
Seeing the world from the perspective of pets was funny and interesting to watch especially because the pets believe that they can be understood by their human counterparts but in reality, their sentences and pleas just come out as barking.
Overall, this is a very cute film that is quite entertaining to watch and doesn’t need to be filled wth a messgae in order to succeed.
Looking forward to the sequel which is already in the works!
Bottom Line – This is basically a Toy Story (1995) with pets and works well as an independent story. Amazing voice cast helps us to identify and care for the animals. Loved the way that we see the world from the perspective of animals to the extent that they think they are real but the humans just hear barking. Cute film that is entertaining which doesn’t need a huge message to be successful. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The first film to open over $100 million in the United States that is not a sequel nor based on previously published material. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
