Anthropoid (2016)

anthropoid” ‘Cowards die many times before their deaths; The valiant never taste of death but once.’ That’s Shakespeare. ” – Josef

Number of Times Seen – 1 (3 Nov 2016)

Brief Synopsis – Based on the true story of an allied assassination plot against one of Hitler’s top Generals during World War II.

My Take on it – I heard about this film a few months ago and was quite intrigued by the premise.

I’m glad that I finally had the opportunity to see it.

The story is very interesting to watch as the members of the Czech underground plan the assassination of one of the top Nazis.

The infighting between the different factions of the resistance was great to watch because you easily get to see how each factor sees their role in the fight against the enemy and each one has different ideas of what needs to be done and by which method in order to overcome the occupation of their homeland.

The way that this film recreates war torn cities and areas of Eastern Europe was nice to see and they do a great job transporting us back to that time and place.

The one things that always irks me about films like this are the way that the accents of the actors seem so fake while trying to give us the impression that they are really Eastern European.

Bottom Line – Very interesting story to watch unfold.  Was thrilling to see how the plan was planned out by the Czechoslovakian underground.  Refreshing to see the way that they were able to recreate war torn Europe.  The accents always throw me of a bit when trying to recreate Eastern European characters, but despite this hiccup  the film was done quite well. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Anthropoid means “resembling a human being in form”.  (From IMDB)
