Number of Times Seen – 1 (10 Nov 2016)
Brief Synopsis – Three single American women living in Rome seek love and husbands for themselves while trying to still be the best at their jobs.
My Take on it – In my quest to finally watch every film nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, I came across this film that I recall having heard the theme song numerous times, but knew nothing about the film itself.
This is actually quite a bland romantic film of the 50’s that unfortunately isn’t very memorable in so many aspects.
The cast and characters don’t make enough of an impression to make them very memorable and the storyline itself feels as if it’s going thru the motions set out for a film in this genre.
The title song is pretty good and I can see why it is considered the best song in films of that year.
Most of what happens in this film is extremely predictable, but that’s usually what is expected in the romance genre.
After having seen this film, I’m really confused as to why this was nominated for Best Picture; yes, it was average, but not the type of film I’d consider one of the best of any given year.
Maybe I’m missing something here….
Bottom Line – Pretty bland romance film of the 1950’s that doesn’t really have a memorable cast or story but the title song is still great today. A bit too predictable but that’s par for the course in this genre. Still a tad baffled that this was nominated for Best Picture that year.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Although the movie title refers to three coins, only two coins are actually seen thrown into the fountain. The third is reported thrown in by Giorgio. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
