Rocky III (1982)

“Nothing is real if you don’t believe in who you are! ” – Rocky

Number of Times Seen – At least 5 times (Theater in ’82, cable in the 80’s and 11 Dec 2016)

Brief Synopsis – Rocky must continue to defend his title as Heavyweight champion until a very strong contender challenges him.

My Take on it – I remember seeing this film in the theater in the early summer of ’83 and it remains one of my favorite films of the series despite not necessarily being the best.

They do an excellent job of showing what fame can do to a person and how the rise to the top can be quick, but the fall can be even quicker.

Really love the relationship created here between Rocky and Apollo and it shows why thing in future films of the series work so well within the canon of these films.

The music used here is full of 80’s beats and helps to keep things moving along at a great pace throughout especially Eye of the Tiger obviously. 🙂

Hulk Hogan and Mr. T. are great additions to the world of Rocky because they help Rocky define even more who he is as a person and as a boxer by helping him understand what he wants and needs to do in order to succeed.

The fight scenes here are also great and are some of the best in the series IMHO.

The training montage is superbly done and even gives us a bit of humor through the seriousness of it all.

Bottom Line – Loved the way they show what fame can do to people.  The relationship created between Rocky and Apollo is such a great friendship.  Great music helps this movie move along and stay interesting throughout. Mr. T and Hulk Hogan are great additions to the series and show us so much about what kind of person and fighter Rocky really is.  Recommended

During the scene where he yells lurid remarks at Adrian, his mother turned to him and said, “I did not raise you to talk to a lady like that.” She then stormed out of the theater. (From IMDB)
