My Overall Thoughts:
Another great year of BP nominees.
Hollywood loves stories that they can relate to easily and the story of an underdog getting his chance is what they all gushed over this year.
It may not truly be the best of the 5 nominees, but once again it’s understandable why they would have made the wrong choice here going with their hearts instead of their heads when voting.
My Rankings:
Movies
- 5. – Taxi Driver – DeNiro is great here as a Vietnam Vet trying to get a grip on life once he returns to society despite still wanted to be a savior.
- 4. – Bound For Glory – Carradine is great here and I loved the way it was filmed because it really transported us back to the Depression era.
- 3. – Rocky – Amazing story about an underdog getting his chance. Understandable how Hollywood fell in love with such a film.
- 2. – All the President’s Men – Hoffman and Redford are perfect as the famed Woodward and Bernstein. Despite knowing the ending, the story is quite gripping and is one of the best films about investigating reporting.
- 1. – Network – Such an amazing look at the entertainment industry that seems so prophetic 40 years after it was made. Amazing performances helps make this so much fun to watch.
Do I agree with the Oscar winner? – Not at all! Rocky is a great film about an underdog getting his chance at stardom, but Network is such a better film because not only does it seem prophetic about the way the entertainment industry has evolved over the years, but it has great characters and an amazing story.
Let me know what you think about these films and my rankings!
