Number of Times Seen – 1 (8 Jan 2017)

Brief Synopsis – A young girl accuses a close relative of doing inappropriate things to her which causes a ripple effect in the tightness of the family

My Take on it – This is a film that I came across by accident when I saw that it won a few Golden Globe Awards and the synopsis piqued my interest.

I liked the way that this film decided to portray this story, not just about the hardships of the victim, but also about redemption and forgiveness for the perpetrator.

This is quite unique because usually we see these kind of films as a way to condemn these kind of acts without trying to see the perpetrators as people who can be helped.

Not everyone will agree with this stance, but it was interesting to see how it was played out here.

Ted Danson, Glenn Close and Roxanne Zal are all superb here and they portray their characters in quite a realistic fashion which makes us look at this kind of situation in an even more serious way.

I wonder how someone would handle making a movie like this now, since the standards of TV movies 33 years ago is quite different from what they are now.

This film was definitely deserving of its Emmy and Golden Globe wins for Best Made for TV movie and acting awards for Danson and Zal.  In addition, it’s nice to see that it had a total of 4 Globe nominations (2 wins) and 8 Emmy Nominations (3 wins).

Bottom Line – Interesting take on this kind of story because despite condemning the act, it is a film more about forgiveness and redemption.  Danson, Close and Zal all come across as being very realistic and make us take this subject matter quite seriously.  Definitely deserving of the Emmy and Globe awards that it received.  Had this film been made now, things would probably be handled so very differently. Highly Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Won both an Emmy and Golden Globe for Best Made-for-TV movie. (From IMDB)
