In my attempt to have a more prolific repertoire of Oscar Nominated Films, I have taken it upon myself to watch 89 new Best Picture Nominees that I’ve never seen before between 1 Dec 2016 and The 89th Annual Oscars on 26 Feb 2017.
Here is my 55th review of the 89 chosen Films…
“Dear Lord, forgive me, I cannot obey anymore. What I do from now on is between You and me alone. ” – Sister Luke
Number of Times Seen – 1 (23 Jan 2017)
Brief Synopsis – After joining the Church as a nun and assigned as a nurse, a young woman must choose between the law of the Church and her own conscience when faced with conflicts while working in a war zone.
My Take on it – Here is yet another film in this series that I knew nothing about before watching it and I must say it was much more engaging than I had expected.
Audrey Hepburn is superb in this film and we get to really feel and understand her conflicts throughout the course of the film.
As a Jew, I know practically nothing about the life of a nun, but they do a wonderful job explaining the process in simple terms and showing us what a woman needs to do in that capacity.
The themes of this film are great because they give us a chance to try and experience everything that the character is seeing and feeling along the way and it helps us understand her conflicts between her faith and her profession.
I can definitely understand how this film can be loved by so many.
Bottom Line – Does an excellent job of showing the life of a nun. Hepburn does a wonderful job as the conflicted woman who has trouble balancing her faith with her yearning to heal. Liked the way they showed us so much of what it means to be a woman of the cloth and trying to detail the process. The themes of this film are great because we get to experience along with the main character why she has questions about her faith vs. profession. I can understand how people can really adore this film. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This was one of Audrey Hepburn’s favorite of her films. It was also one of her most financially successful. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
