Number of Times Seen – 3 (7 Jun 2008, Mar 2011 and 9 Jan 2017)
Brief Synopsis – A single father tells the story of how he met the mother of his daughter and she must guess which of the three women in the story is her real mother
My Take on it – This is such a great concept for a rom-com because we get to watch a story unfold yet it is shown as a semi-mystery instead of a typical rom-com.
Ryan Reynolds is amazing as the lead because he is such a charismatic actor that his character is constantly loved by all, this in turn makes it even more difficult since he has such great chemistry with all three potential mothers.
One would think that a rom-com mystery would particularly work well, but they managed to pull it off here and if anything, it makes the film even more engaging and compelling because we also want to figure out the riddle that the movie poses to us.
All of the characters are quite likeable and that makes it even harder for the audience to guess the answer to the mystery of who the mother really is.
Loved how this film is set in the political background of the 90’s and we get to see how the lives of the characters evolve as the political situations changed during that decade.
Great romantic comedy that most people have probably overlooked.
Bottom Line – Great concept that works quite well. The characters are all likeable and we constantly keep changing our minds as to who the mother will be. Loved the way that it is set in the political background of the 90’s. Excellent cast helps make this film so much fun. Reynolds has great chemistry with all of his co-stars which makes things a bit more difficult to decipher the answer to the riddle posed to us. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Abigail Breslin’s character makes reference to her American Girls doll collection stating that they would be “worth a fortune”. Breslin is the third actress to play one of the American Girls, Kit Kittredge, in her own movie (Kit Kittredge: An American Girl (2008)). Both films were released in 2008. (Other movies made from American Girls stories are based on the characters Felicity and Samantha) (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
