Edge of Seventeen (2016)

edge-of-seventeen“There are two types of people in the world: The people who naturally excel at life. And the people who hope all those people die in a big explosion. ” – Nadine

Number of Times Seen – 1 (30 Jan 2017)

Brief Synopsis – A teenager feels that her life is over when everything seems to start going wrong for her.

My Take on it – I heard about this film a few months back and finally had a chance to see it.

This film feels like it gets it’s energy and inspiration from the late great John Hughes because it seems like the kind of film he would make if he were still around now.

Hailee Steinfeld is amazing in this film and her character is full of charm, energy and charisma and we instantly love the voice that her character gives off here.

She has a bright future ahead of her if she keeps doing films like this.

The story itself is fresh and innovative and flows so well the entire way through.

The dialogue is great and keeps us interesting in seeing what will happen to the characters which makes it so much fun to watch unfold.

Liked the characters played by Woody Harrelson and Kyra Sedgewick because they both feel quite real as a teacher and mother who just want what’s best for the main character.

The character played by Hayden Szeto is perfectly cast because he feels like a real insecure teenage boy who doesn’t know how to properly act around the girl he likes.

This film feels so genuine and real and clearly reflects the way teenagers act in any era, but especially in today’s world.

It’s definitely one of the best coming of age films made in quite a long time.

Bottom Line – Fresh and innovative coming of age film. Great dialogue helps make this so fun to watch.  Steinfeld has so much energy in this role.  The story feels like a modern John Hughes film and it works so well.  Great supporting cast led by Harrelson and Sedgewick.  Szeto is perfect as the geeky teenager who likes Steinfeld’s character. Highly Recommended!
